Tawni Rae Smith

TAWNI RAE SMITH 1961 – 2022

The unique spirit that defined Tawni Rae Smith of Fenton, departed this world on October 28, 2022. Her family was at her bedside when she finished her Life’s Journey. Left behind to grieve this incomprehensible loss are Tawni’s parents, Jim and Germaine Smith of Kingston, TN; sister, Kimberley Smith Hannigan of Fenton; brother, Brook (Kathleen) Smith of Fenton; nieces, Taeler Smith and Brooke (Justin) Campbell; nephews, Trevor J. Smith, Brent (Carli) Nieporte, Blake (Austin) Nieporte; her best uncle ever, William Wright; great-nieces, Rion Allgood and Alannah Campbell; her best friend, Donna Diener; many great-nephews, extended family, friends, and former patients. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Lillian and William Wright and nephew, Brandon Nieporte.

Tawni was born in Alpena on August 9, 1961. She attended Grand Blanc High School and Mott School of Nursing. After graduating and passing the National Registry she was licensed as a Registered Nurse. Before retiring in 2020 Tawni worked within the McLaren healthcare system for 35 years, first at McLaren General Hospital in the ortho-neuro unit and later for McLaren Home Health Care. Her love for life, her family, her home, the sense of adventure from travel, her patients, and her animal and bird rescues, kitties Calli and Emory, will be remembered by all who knew her. She was happiest on her snowmobile, preparing food for family or friends, exploring the National Parks, or heading across the Yucatan to see more pyramids.

A celebration of the wonderful life she lived will be held at Venue 111 in Holly Mi on Saturday, December 3. The information will be posted on her Facebook page. If you wish to honor the loving, compassionate, funny, generous, and exceptional woman she was, she would have appreciated a donation to Adopt-a-Pet, 13575 Fenton Road, Fenton 48430, or the American Cancer Society.
