SAMUEL LESTER YOUNCE, 84, of Davison, passed away at home with his family January 19, 2023, joining his son, Steven, in Heaven. A memorial service will be held for Sam & his son on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6100 Richfield Road, Flint, Ml 48506, Pastor Pete Scribner officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday evening, January 27 from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to “Calvary Presbyterian Church/Kenya Missions” to provide a well in Sam’s memory.

Sam was born in Buffalo, New York on January 8, 1939 to Lucius Younce and Lila (Coblentz) Younce. Sam married Dorothy Vannest on July 2, 1960. He graduated from Davison High and attended Spring Arbor College and Mott College. He worked for 9 years at Fenton Machine Tool until it closed. He worked as a Real Estate Agent . He owned and managed properties for about 25 years until retiring. Sam was in the Army in the MP Division for 2 years. He enjoyed bowling and running. He completed 30 Crim 10 mile races and 14 marathons. Sam served as Elder, then Deacon and also served as outdoor greeter/valet for many years at Calvary Presbyterian Church. About 5 years ago, Alzheimers came into his life, stealing memories and abilities. He always remained the sweet husband, father, and friend we will remember.

 

 

Sam will be greatly missed by his wife, Dorothy; four children, Cheryl (Scott) Hope, Mark Younce, Joseph Younce, and Bradley (Marsha) Younce; six grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Brandon (Paige) Hope. Mallory (Jake) Marsack, Michael and Matthew Younce; great-grandchildren, Luca Hope and Jettson Marsack. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean (Younce) Hudson; brothers, Daniel and David Younce. Sadly, his oldest son, Steven, was struck by a car and died while visiting at Hilton Head, South Carolina on January 15, 2023. Our family is very appreciative of all the prayers and support during this time.
