Photo by Austin VanDaele HARTLAND – The Grand Blanc girls’ golf team entered yesterday’s Div. 1 regional looking solid. They’ve recently been a tough team to go up against and scores have gotten smaller as each week of the season has progressed. The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team move on to the state meet.

The regional was hosted by Hartland at Hartland Glen Golf Course and also included Brighton, Davison, Grand Ledge, Holt, Howell, Lapeer, Milford, Saginaw Heritage and White Lake Lakeland.

Currently, Brighton is ranked No. 4 in Div. 1 and Hartland comes in at No. 9.

During the recent Genesee County Tournament, the Bobcats were third behind only Flint Powers Catholic and Fenton. Cameryn Cass led the scorecard with an 81 and Madison Brigance shot an 85. Taylor Kondel came through with an 89 and Abby Britton a 96. – B.P.

Div. 3 at Pontiac CC

Goodrich will compete against Armada, Crankbrook-Kingswood, Imlay City, Marine City, Marysville, Brandon, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, St. Clair, Warren Regina and Yale at Pontiac Country Club today. Currently ranked sixth in the MICGA’s Div. 3 rankings, the Lady Martians will be in a dogfight to win the regional with fifth-ranked Marysville as the presumed favorites. However the Goodrich girls are expected to easily qualify for the state finals, as the top three teams advance in each region. No other teams competing at Pontiac Country Club are currently ranked within the state.

The Lady Martians most recently won the Byron Invitational, scoring 378 as a team on Oct. 3. Goodrich has been led all season by senior captain Elizabeth Gibbs, who was elected All- State Honorable Mention a year ago and earned medalist honors at Byron by carding a team-high 78. Ashley Madill and Emily Madill will also be vital to Goodrich’s run to the state finals. Emily Madill placed eighth overall with 99 at the Byron Invite, while Ashley recently carded a 44 in a dual victory over Brandon High School on Sept. 27. — J.O.
