Area festivals held over the weekend



This wheat art is based on the practice of wheat weaving, an ancient art which seems to have been done all over the world wherever grain was grown. Its history is more or less unknown but thought to be based on a belief in the fertility of the earth. Farmer's would weave designs from the last sheaf or best cut from the harvest as a decorative way to store a bundle of seed over the winter so that the Spirit of the Grain could survive and be plowed back into the soil at the next planting. Additionally, the Good Times in Goodrich festival was held featuring the classic scramble for candy, the high school marching band, arts and crafts vendors— including some amazing quilts, and many other family friendly activities.
