Movies under the stars

FLINT — Movies Under the Stars from Communities First, Inc. continues with Despicable Me 3, July 13 at Flint City Hall on the back lawn. The series features a preparty starting at 7:30 p.m. including lawn games, dancing and music. Each experience is different and may include bounce houses, special guests and contests. Each guest will receive a bag of popcorn, a drink and candy to enjoy during the movie. The experience is free, however donations are encouraged. Additional movies are as follows: The Game Plan, July 28 - Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium; The Secret Life of Pets, August 10 - Applewood Estate; Moana, August 24 - Flint City Hall, back lawn. Be a Tourist in Your Home Town

FLINT — The Flint Convention and Visitor’s Bureau’s sixth annual “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown” event will be held July 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents and non-residents alike can experience the best the community has to offer – all for only $1. Buy your passport online by July 7 for a chance to win two tickets to the Ally Challenge presented by McLaren. The passport grants you free admission to participating attractions, complimentary transportation between attractions, provided by co-sponsor Flint MTA, discounts to several restaurants in downtown Flint. Start your journey at any one of four ticket locations: Brush Park, 120 E. 1st St., the Whiting Auditorium, ForMar Nature Preserve, or the Flint Farmer’s Market or buy tickets online. Second Saturday Trivia Night

FLINT — Flint Cultural Center and Longway Planetarium, 1310 E. Kearsley Street, host Second Saturday Trivia, July 14, Aug. 11, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. Details/tickets at SloanLongway.org/TriviaNight. Team up with friends in groups of up to six people and compete against challengers in six common categories including science, history, geography, literature, pop culture, and more. 2018 Downtown Throwdown

FLINT — The 3rd Annual Downtown Throwdown, hosted by Cumulus Broadcasting, is back at the Flint Farmers Market, 300 E. 1st Street on July 18th from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Sample food, desserts and drinks from local businesses, stroll the market and browse through arts, crafts and enjoy entertainment.
