Grand Blanc girls fight for regional title tonight

Photo by Kylee Richardson ROCHESTER – The Grand Blanc varsity girls’ soccer team takes on Rochester Adams for the regional championship tonight at Stoney Creek High School at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Lady Bobcats defeated Hartland 1-0 in the regional semifinals. Locked in a scoreless tie, Jenna Blackburn found the back of the net for the game-winner with less than five minutes to play off an assist from Paige Webber.

Div. 1 district at Lapeer

Grand Blanc dominated its run through the district playoffs, culminating in an 8-0 blowout over Davison in the district final on Saturday. Paige Webber led the Lady Bobcats with four goals. Faith Webber and Ashton Cassel each also found the net twice. Paige Webber and Morgan Jewell had two assists each. Lara Wheeler, Jenna Blackburn, Morgen Metzger and Faith Webber each had one assist.

In the semifinal on Friday, Grand Blanc dominated Lapeer 8-0. Paige Webber recorded a hat-trick, while Ally Childers, Bella Sebo, Kelsey Dunn, Blackburn and Metzger also scored once each. Metzger recorded three assists. Blackburn, Cassel, Jewell and Faith Webber each had one assist.

Grand Blanc coach Greg Kehler also noted the stellar defensive play from Jewell, Wheeler, Samantha Lewis and Cierra Trudeau that led to three shutouts over the district playoffs with Madison McKay in net.

On the other side of the bracket, Davison beat Flint Carman-Ainsworth 8-0 in the semifinal. — J.O.

Div. 2 at Brandon

Goodrich saw its season come to a close following a 1-0 loss to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep in the Div. 2 district semifinal at Brandon last Thursday. Notre Dame Prep previously defeated Pontiac 11-0 in the opening round while Goodrich had a bye.

On the other end of the bracket, Fenton defeated host Brandon 2-1 in the first round and Linden defeated Holly to set up the other semifinal. Fenton went on to defeat Linden, 2-0, before losing to Notre Dame Prep, 3-0, in the district championship.

Notre Dame Prep faced DeWitt in its first-round regional game on Tuesday with Dewitt winning 4-1. Dewitt plays Petoskey for the title today after defeating St. Clair 2-0.

Goodrich ends its season with a 13-5- 1 overall record. – A.V.
