Road money wasted on bureaucracy

Rep. Tim Sneller ("Repealing prevailing wage would be irresponsible," May 3) would have a much stronger point if the roads in Michigan were well-maintained. But, alas, Michigan's roads are much worse than the other six states where I have lived.

Is it because our road budgets are too small? No. It's because those budgets are wasted on bureaucratic requirements imposed by politicians, administrators, and union leaders. The prevailing wage is merely one of those regulations.

Can you name any other industry where new personnel earn the prevailing wage rather than the entry-level wage?
