Annual cemetery cleanup scheduled

Board members sought

GOODRICH — The Goodrich Cemetery Association Board is asking friends and family members of individuals buried in the cemetery and owners of vacant lots for their help in cleaning up the grounds of the Historic Goodrich Cemetery.

All seasonal decorations; flowers, wreaths and grave blankets must be removed by May 1, or they will be discarded. Items such as statuary, flower hooks and holders must be placed directly next to headstones as to not impact maintenance and mowing.

Residents are reminded that Goodrich Cemetery Association is not responsible for maintaining or for any damage to decorations or plantings within the cemetery and the planting of trees and shrubbery is prohibited. Headstones, markers and their maintenance are the responsibility of family members of individuals buried.

Maintenance of the cemetery is majority volunteer-based. Family members of individuals buried within the cemetery and others who wish to volunteer to help in the maintenance of the historic cemetery are always appreciated.

The annual spring clean-up day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, beginning at 9 a.m. with a rain date of Thursday, May 4. Call 810-636-3500 for more information on clean-up.

The Historic Goodrich Cemetery is an active cemetery with lots available for burial, and also a columbarium for the interment of ashes.

Atlas Township generously provides medallions and flags for all veterans' individual graves. Flags are placed prior to Memorial Day and removed after Labor Day.

The Goodrich Cemetery Board currently has two openings for board members. Board members must be a shareholder (lot owner). Interested parties should send a letter to: Goodrich Cemetery Association - PO Box 90 - Goodrich, MI 48438 or email to: goodrichcemetery@gmail.com The Goodrich Cemetery Association was formed in the 1800's and is a non-profit group. The Association Board meets four times per year.

The annual public meeting for the Goodrich Cemetery Association will be held April 16 at 7 p.m. in the village community room at 7338 S. State Road (lower level). This will be followed immediately by the regular business meeting. — P .S.
