By revealing a few photos of their 2019 Jeep Cherokee late last month, Fiat Chrysler provided an enticement to fans and loyalists of the popular SUV to attend the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this month to see the real deal.

The NAIAS at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit begins with Press Preview days Jan. 14-16, then rolls into Industry Preview days Jan. 17-18 and a Charity Preview on Jan. 19 before opening to the public Jan. 20-28.

Along with the four photos of the 2019 Cherokee shown here, FCA released one paragraph touting the new model.

“The most capable mid-size sportutility vehicle (SUV) boasts a new, authentic and more premium design, along with even more fuel-efficient powertrain options. Additional images and complete vehicle information will be available January 16, 2018, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit,” the press release said.

Zac Palmer of Autoweek noted a new look up front: “Lo and behold, the bizarre stacked-headlight design is gone. In its place is a more traditional setup without the thin daytime running lights.” Tony Markovich of Car and Driver commented on the changes at the other send of the SUV: “The license plate is incorporated into the liftgate, which makes for a simpler rear bumper design. The reworked bumper and the redesigned taillights together make the 2019 Cherokee look wider and less top-heavy.”

The Cherokee model is an important one for FCA, having sold more than 200,000 units in North America in each of the 2013 through 2016 model years.
