Goodrich’s Kline notches 100th victory

Photo Provided GOODRICH – Goodrich wrestling’s Honour Kline accomplished the feat of his 100th win during Wednesday’s wrestling meet against Fenton and Holly held at Goodrich high school. Kline, who wrestles at 215 lbs., is only a junior this year.

Kline’s accomplishment was capped off by Goodrich taking a pair of wins on the night as well. The Martians defeated Holly 31-27 and Fenton 47-24. Kline tallied two wins on the night, defeating Holly’s Collin Dallwitz by a 5-2 decision for his 100th win and Fenton’s Thomas Conlon by fall at 1:05.

Caleb Teague also tallied a pair of wins at 119 lbs., both coming by fall, along with Carson Turnbow at 130 lbs., both by fall and Dominic Edwards at 145 lbs., both by fall. At 145 lbs., Tristin Katulski defeated Holly by a 15-2 decision and Fenton by a 7-5 decision.

At 125 lbs., Autumn Teague beat Fenton by Fall. Carter Lauinger won by a 6-2 decision over Fenton at 152 lbs. Sam Fisher won an 11-0 major decision at 160 lbs. against Holly. At 171 lbs., Kevin Patterson won an 8-5 decision against Holly. Juwan Vines, 189 lbs., defeated Fenton by a 24-9 technical fall. At 285 lbs., Blake Coffell won against Fenton by fall.

Goodrich hosts the Goodrich Tournament of Champions on Saturday. Addison, Birch Run, Brandon Clinton, Clio, Detroit Catholic Central, DeWitt, Fenton, Flint, Gaylord, Grand Ledge, Huron, Westland John Glenn, Lakeshore, Port Huron Northern, St. Johns, Tecumseh, Utica and Western will all be in attendance. – K.R.

GRAND BLANC: The Bobcats opened their dual meet schedule last Wednesday with victories over Williamston 52-9 and Mason 38-32.

In the Williamson victory, Freshman Will Miller at 103 lbs., sophomore and team captain Jackson Turnbow at 130, freshman Carson Baker at 189 and senior Drew McCullough at 215 all won their respective matches by pin fall. Freshman Aiden Lackey at 119, sophomore Brody Kemper at 125, junior Griffin Redmond at 135, junior Eugene Durbin at 152 and junior Preston Loeffler at 171 also earned victories for Grand Blanc.

In the dual against Mason, the Bobcats started out in a 17-0 hole, losing the first three matches. Junior Devin Miller mounted the comeback for Grand Blanc, defeating Mason’s Josh Beauchaine in a 17-1 technical fall. Turnbow and Kemper, who was awarded All-State last season, tied the match at 17-17 with a pair of falls. From there, Grand Blanc caught fire. Amier Hatcher at 145 lbs. pinned Mason’s Cameron Swanson. Durbin then defeated Mason’s Zach Hayes in a 5-2 decision at 152 lbs.

At 160, Grand Blanc captain Seth Dominguez beat Mason’s Zahch Surato in a 4-3 decision. At 171, captain Kaleb Kemper pinned Mason’s Brice Isenhath. Finally, Jacob Putnam defeated Mason’s Devin Vasquez in a 5-3 decision at 189.

“I’m very proud of the way the boys wrestled today from top to bottom,” said Grand Blanc coach Josh Williams. “We have a young team, and today, the young guys definitely held their own. Against Williamston, we started four freshmen in the varsity line up. It just goes to show how bright our future is and the type of talent that we have coming up through Grand Blanc.” — J.O.
