Martians will be young on the lanes

By Sports Staff

GOODRICH -- The Goodrich girls’ bowling team is ready to reap the benefits of last year’s rebuilding campaign under head coach Shelley Zuwala, who is entering her eighth season.

“Last season, I had lots of new young talent, so it was a rebuild year,” said Zuwala. “This year, almost all of the girls have returned.”

However, Goodrich will lose junior Kira Horner, sophomore Madyson Allen and sophomore Hannah Russ, but six bowlers will return. Grace Fritzler and Amanda Fox comprise the senior class, and Emma Butcher is the lone junior. The Lady Martians will be mainly sophomores with Rebecka Allen, Maggie Brownrigg and Emily Hill. Goodrich will have one freshman bowler, Aubrey Stockwell.

The Goodrich boys lost Evan Bierkamp and Justin Stockwell to graduation and only have one returning senior, Nick Butcher. Drew Bierkamp and Brandon Stockwell return for their junior season, as well. The Martians have four newcomers with juniors Lucian Lopez and Alex Winterlee, along with freshmen Bill Mullane, Trenton Polizzi and Alex Welch. The Goodrich boys are also coached by Zuwala. -- J.O.
