City DDA plans holiday festival

GRAND BLANC — Save the date! The City of Grand Blanc Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will sponsor the first ever First Friday Festival of Lights, a community downtown event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1.

The Festival of Lights will begin with a candle lighting in the spirit of the Scottish Hogmanay (a New Year’s celebration) at city hall and then parade through downtown, ending at Physicians Park with a performance by the Flint Scottish Pipe and Drum Band.

At Physicians Park, a Winter Market and food trucks will gather to create an old town atmosphere and two trees will be placed, one at City Hall and one at Physicians Park. Children of all faiths will be encouraged to decorate the trees with ornaments.

Other activities will include trackless train rides for the kids, free photo booth, Santa sighting for pictures, and a For-Mar Nature Center interactive table and entertainment. The Downtown Development Authority was established in February 2006 to better serve existing businesses in the city and encourage and promote new business. This is one of several events the DDA has planned to support improvement. — P.S.
