During the nightcap, Kleindl led the way with two hits. Colby Phipps and McIntire each had an RBI. Ethan Young was on the mound in game two, striking out one while giving up just one run in five innings. Hunter Holton pitched two innings, walking one while giving up no hits.

Goodrich begins postseason play on Saturday, facing Linden at home at 10 a.m. The winner will move on to face either Lake Fenton or Flint Powers Catholic for the championship at 3 p.m. – A.V.

GRAND BLANC: Grand Blanc was in tournament play on Friday and Saturday, finishing the weekend out with a 2-2 record. The Bobcats defeated Linden 6-4 and lost to Bay City Western 8-0 on Saturday, while beating Macomb Dakota 3-2 and losing 3-2 to Saginaw Heritage on Friday.

Logan Fleming took the hill for the win against Linden, allowing three earned runs and struck out seven. Lawson Bainbridge came in for the save. Jack Scribner had three hits and a pair of RBI. Brandon Bednar and Connor Carlson had two hits apiece.

“We were able to respond well after a disappointing first game Friday,” said Grand Blanc coach Kevin Hubbs. “I was real happy with how the kids responded after the loss to Bay City Western. We lost to Linden last week in the Greater Flint semifinals and we kicked the ball around a bit and made several errors against them, so the kids focused on playing a clean game this time around.”

Nolan Hamilton took the loss against Bay City Western, throwing six innings. Hubbs added, “Bay City Western is a very good team, but we were off in all facets of the game, committing five errors and didn’t swing the bats well at all.”

In Friday’s win against Macomb Dakota, Dylan Cumming threw for four innings, retiring seven while allowing two runs and two hits. Fleming came in for the save. Noah Staten had two hits. Ethan Asperger and Olah had a double each and Bednar and Hamilton each drove in a run.

The 3-2 loss against Saginaw Heritage came down to the final play, as the game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth when Heritage singled off Cumming to drive in the winning run. Heritage took an early lead in the first inning, scoring off an error. Grand Blanc came back to go up 2-1, but Heritage tied things up in the sixth inning with a walk on bases loaded.

Cumming took the loss for Grand Blanc after tossing 2-1/3 innings, giving up a run and a hit while striking out four. Nick Morales started the game on the hill, throwing for 5-1/3 innings and allowing two runs and five hits while striking out three. Olah and Joseph Messner had an RBI each.

“The pitching was strong on both sides,” Hubbs said. “Saginaw Heritage pitchers struck out five, while Grand Blanc sat down five.”

The Bobcats fell to Flint Powers, 6-5, last Wednesday in a game that came down to the final innings. Powers took a 5-1 lead in the second inning, which put Grand Blanc behind for the remainder of the game. Grand Blanc added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to tie it 5-5, but Powers drove home the would-be winning run in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead once more. Olah had two hits and Fleming threw for three innings, fanning five.
