McFarlen to host craft fair

GRAND BLANC —The Genesee District Library (GDL) and Flint Handmade will host the 3rd Annual Book Lovers’ Craft Fair at the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12.

A dozen local artisans will sell an assortment of modern book-themed, handmade goods, such as notebooks made from vintage board games, magnets and coasters featuring literary quotes, and comic book collage canvases. The majority of items are $10-$20.

“New to the fair this year is Nellie’s Natural Soap,” said Crystal Pepperdine, executive director of Flint Handmade. “This artisan makes all natural soap with goat›s milk and carries many lovely scents.”

“Also new this year are artisanal jams and jellies from All AmeriCAN Canning Company,” said Pepperdine. “They taste delicious and make excellent gifts for that hard-to-shop-for person.”

“The Genesee District Library is excited to partner with Flint Handmade for the 3rd Annual Book Lovers’ Craft Fair,” said Kelly Flynn, Community Relations manager for GDL. “Our patrons love everything book-related, and we love our patrons. It’s a perfect match.”

Guests may participate in a free make-and-take paper-folding class for all ages. Supplies will be provided. Guests can also enter to win a beautiful book on the art of paper folding.

Flint Handmade, which was founded by Pepperdine in 2007, supports the local handmade economy and environment by organizing and promoting craft markets, offering opportunities for social crafting, and educating the public about the personal and commercial value of handcrafting.

Admission is free. The Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library is located at 515 Perry Road in Grand Blanc. For more information, including a list of vendors with links to their websites, please visit http://flinthandmade.org/ programs/book-lovers-craft-fair.P.S.
