VAAA presents Healing Power of Humor workshop

GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Senior Center will host an interactive workshop on humor and laughter, and its therapeutic effects for the mind, body, and spirit on July 9th from 10 am to noon presented by Linda J. Keilman, DNP, Gerontological Nurse Practitioner and Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at Michigan State University.

The seminar will discuss humor theories and the physiological benefits of humor and laughter on older adults with chronic conditions, describe the therapeutic healing benefits of humor on the mind, body, and spirit, and identify how to utilize humor as a therapeutic tool/intervention for self and others.

Kathryn Boles, Executive Director of VAAA, says, “When dealing with a stressful condition such as a chronic health issue, it is important to have a sense of humor as an outlet. Learning to find the humor in everyday situations will help put you in a better state of mind and make you more able to tackle the harder issues in life.”

This course qualifies for Continuing Nursing Education in the amount of 1.66 Contact Hours and criteria for successful completion include attendance at the entire event and submission of a completed evaluation form. Partial credit will not be awarded.
