Chamber gets a new website

GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce unveiled its newly redesigned website last Friday during its monthly breakfast meeting at Brick Street Bar and Grill.

Chamber Marketing Director Chris Foster said when he and Chamber President Jet Kilmer sat down to talk about goals for the 2012 year, becoming involved in social media and a new website quickly rose to the top of the list.

“We didn’t have the ability to update (the website) quickly or to update it as things changed,” Foster said. “A website shouldn’t just be an online brochure. It needs to be more live and flexible.”

Kilmer agreed stating with the old website the Chamber was always behind on distributing information to the community.

“We got the old website for free,” Kilmer said. “And working with free is great, but unfortunately then you don’t become a priority when you call with changes that need to be made and we didn’t have the knowledge to make the changes ourselves either.”

In order to get up to speed, Kilmer said the Chamber enlisted the help

After months of brainstorming and planning on the Chamber’s end, Kilmer said it took just about two weeks for Mayberry Media to design the website.

“I couldn’t be happier with the finished product,” Kilmer said. “Aaron and Shelby were so easy to work with and their ability to interpret what we wanted was excellent.”

The new website, Foster said, offers more convenience to users with features being added that allow for existing and new Chamber members the option to pay dues online.

“Before to become a new member, they had to fax a form, write a check, pay the postage and it was really like a four or five step process,” Foster said. “With the new website, businesses can become members quicker with just the click of a button.”

Also featured on the new website is a current list of upcoming events, information on the Chamber’s five annual events, new advertising options including a video spot on the homepage, a “member2member” listing that can narrow searches by category, and direct links to the Chamber’s brand new Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages. A directory of all Chamber businesses is also still available, offering live links to websites provided by the businesses.

With the project now being complete, Mayberry Media said they enjoyed being able to help the Chamber bring its concept to life and make the website more live.

“It was a great experience,” Aaron Mayberry said. “Any time we are working with a client we always try our best to implement everything they want while adding in our expertise and suggestions throughout the process. Together we were able to deliver a live site that uses software that allows for the Chamber to easily update the information on their own.”
