Locals soar on national stage

BOWLING GREEN, OH. — The Flint Falcons’ swim club competed for Grand Blanc coach Matt Pearce at the 2010 YMCA Zones swim meet March 19-21 at Bowling Green State University, finishing second in the 94-team field. Individually, Grand Blanc’s Andrew Yunker and Jessica Weber were among the team’s top competitors, as Yunker placed first in the 400 IM and 100 butterfly in 4:09.79 and

Weber won the 200 butterfly in 2:10.23 and clocked a top-six finish in the 50 butterfly in :27.51 and the 100 fly in 1:00.11.

Another 15 and over participant for the Falcons was Bobcats’ sophomore Jayson Hansen, who took the runners-up position in the 100 freestyle and the 1650 frestyle in 10:10.97 and 17:04.42, respectively. Emily Eaton was fourth in the 200 IM 54.49 and seventh in the 50 freestyle in

25.21, Gina Sancricca placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.47, fourth the 200 IM in 2:15.26, and sixth in the 400 IM in 4:45.64 and 100 breaststroke in 1:14.01 and taking the seventh spot the 100 butterfly was Magnolia Pearce in 1:06.91.

The team was just as well represented on the local front in the 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14-year-old groups, which included efforts from Lauren Hammond, Amanda Quitos, Lindsey Sieloff, Trevor Purman, Cooper Prue, Rebecca Eckblad, Caitlyn Aymler, Erin Emmert, Addison Donahue, Mackenzie Kryska, Rachel Eaton, David Kirtek, Charles Emmert, Ryan Johnston, Jacob Purman and Jonathan Hansen. — M.S.
