Lacrosse team wins home opener

GRAND BLANC — The Lady Bobcats kicked off the season on a good note, defeating Plymouth Canton Salem United, 17-10, in their first home game of the season on March 31. This brings the Bobcats to 2-0 in their first season in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association with a 15-4 defeat of Northville last Friday. Senior Amy Venturino and Freshman Lindsey Kaiser scored four goals apiece with Senior Kylie Welch also adding 3 goals. Freshman Kristen Watson and Junior Tori Patterson scored 2 goals each, with Brianna Fidelino and Jessie Vogt finishing with one goal apiece. Lindsey Kaiser also added four assists with Paige Schumaker and Julie Thompson controlling the midfield and moving the ball up well with 3 assists each.

“Although we lost 12 seniors from last years team, we have a strong group of freshmen that have developed well through our middle school program,” said coach Katie Gutteridge. “They are making an immediate impact on the team. We are also returning seniors Julie Thompson and Kylie Welch who both earned All State Honorable Mention honors in 2009. Our biggest challenge is developing a new group of defenders that can communicate and work together after losing three-year defensive starters Kaylee Angers and Emily Rodriguez to graduation.” — L.P.
