Letter carriers to aid Senior Box Program

GENESEE COUNTY — Nearly 40,000 children in Genesee County receive free meals at school and 2,500 area students are given backpacks at school each Friday with food to get them through the weekend.

Another 1,200 students receive meals on weeknights through the Kids Café and there are 230 area seniors who rely on monthly food boxes through the Senior Box Program.

You can help make a difference in the lives of these children and senior citizens by being a part of our country’s largest one day annual food drive. All across America, Letter Carriers will be collecting non perishable food donations along their mail routes.

Please help by setting out non perishable canned, boxed or bagged food items by your mailbox on May 8.

The postal service is also looking for volunteers to help at post offices on May 8 between the hours of 1:30-5 p.m.

All volunteers will receive a letter of community service recognition for portfolios and resumes upon request.
