Traffic signals to be upgraded in GB Township, Burton

GRAND BLANC TWP. — The Genesee County Road Commission announced today that the traffic signals, pedestrian crossing signals, and pedestrian ramps at intersections along Bristol Road, from Torrey Road to Dort Highway in Grand Blanc Township and the City of Burton are being upgraded.

Traffic signals will be interconnected — wirelessly — to improve traffic flow, and retrofitted with new light-emitting diode (LED) lights for increased visibility, while countdown pedestrian signals and pushbuttons will be installed at crosswalks. At the same time, ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are being installed at these intersections.

The traffic signals will be upgraded to the new style which incorporates a flashing yellow left-turn arrow. This new type of four-arrow signal is being introduced nationwide and ultimately will be required at all intersections where there is a separate left-turn arrow signal. They are replacing the flashing red left-turn signals that are now common in Michigan.

Construction of these upgrades begins April 12 and should be completed by June 30.
