Annual Bikin’ for Burns benefit ride to aid local fire departments

Photo courtesy of ABATE Michigan Region 20 GENESEE COUNTY — About 1,000 motorcycles are expected to take part in the 10th annual Bikin’ for Burns parade — a 40-mile police escorted motorcycle ride through Genesee County — on May 8.

The event raises money for fire protection and this year will be directly benefiting the Durand City Fire Department and Swartz Creek Area Fire Department.

Motorcyclists from all walks of life will gather at Perani’s Event Center Flint where they will begin lining up for the ride at 10 a.m. Riders will depart at noon and the ride will end up at Shriner’s Circus Park near Clio.

The cost is $10, same as last year, said organizers. Pre-registration is underway at Top End Cycle, G-3360 S. Dort Hwy. in Burton. Details: Call 810-743-0100.

The ride will leave Perani Arena and will travel east on Lapeer Road, north on Irish Road in Davison Township, west on Richfield Road in Richfield Township, north on genesee Road, west on Mt. Morris Road, north on Clio Road, west on Dodge Road, north on Jennings Road and left on Wilson Road to Shriner’s Circus Park in Clio.

The ride will be broadcast live on 103.9 The FOX.

There will be a pre-registration party Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight with music provided, a trophy girl contest on Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m., biker games at 6 p.m. on Saturday and new this year will be kids games all weekend long. There will also be free camping at the park for those attending the event. — G.G.
