Don’t miss the chance to see local talent in Tom Sawyer

FLINT — Some of the community’s talented and brightest stars will take the stage of Flint Youth Theatre in the currently running production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Gloria Hrit, Ben Kent-Bryant and Michael Latimer of Grand Blanc, along with Emma and Kate Lieber of Goodrich, were among 33 students from Genesee County who participated in the open auditions and technical interviews for the production. The five students were then among the 20 who were chosen for the production, which is a staple in American literature.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. July 24-25, 31 and Aug. 1. Matinees are 2 p.m. July 23 and 30. All performances are at Flint Youth Theatre, 1220 E. Kearsley St. Advance tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for children and available at Flint Youth Theatre, by calling 810-237-1530 or online at www.flintyouththeatre.org. Day of performance tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for children.

Along with the performances, FYT adds to the summer fun with Aunt Polly’s Picnic, a special food event following the July 30 performance. After the show, audiences can join Tom Sawyer and his pals for a rollicking picnic — river style. Guests will don straw hats and Aunt Polly will serve homemade sandwiches, cookies and lemonade. The all-inclusive price of $20 for adults and $18 for children includes a ticket to the show, a hat, the picnic and a visit with Tom and his friends.

Reservations are required by July 28 for the July 30 show. For reservations, call 810-237-1530.
