Holiday Harvest
dinner and dance
GRAND BLANC —
Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation invites all special-needs families for a night of harvest-themed fun on Nov. 16 at the Holiday Harvest Dinner and Dance.
From 6-8 p.m., families will enjoy dinner, refreshments, music and dancing. A photo opportunity will be available for $2. The dinner and dance are at the Grand Blanc Senior Activity Center, 12362 Pagels Dr.

Live music, murder mystery at Cranberries
GOODRICH —
Cranberries Café, 10250 Hegel Rd., has live music from 7-10 p.m. every Thursday in November.
Randy McIntyre and Tim Lamb perform guitar and vocals on Nov. 8; Rusty Wright, a Blues and jazz duo, performs on Nov. 15; and Craig Marsden brings his keyboard, harmonica and vocal talents to Cranberries on Nov. 29.
Cranberries also hosts a mystery dinner on Nov. 24. Patrons can enjoy a five-course meal while solving the mystery as the Cranberries staff presents a story about a small-town homecoming and murder. Reservations recommended.

Holiday sneak peek
FLINT —
The Flint Institute of Music (FIM) presents the Nutcracker Holiday Pops Sneak Peek from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 17 at 1025 E. Kearsley St.
The free family event features souvenir photos with little mice and soldiers in the giant chair from the Nutcracker set; holiday favorites performed by the Flint Symphony Orchestra Brass ensemble; carols sung by Flint Mastersingers; free refreshments; viewing of Nutcracker dance rehearsals and drawings for tickets and prizes.
The event is a warm-up for FIM’s two holiday programs, Nutcracker and Holiday Pops held at The Whiting. Performances of Nutcracker are 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Dec. 1, and 3 p.m. Dec. 2. Holiday Pops is at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 and 3 p.m. Dec. 16.

Featured artist
at FIA
FLINT —
Flint artist Donna Kurtz is the November Featured Artist of the Month at the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E. Kearsley St.
Kurtz has been painting more than 30 years, has been a student at FIA for many years, working in watercolor, oil, acrylic and painted porcelain.
An avid photographer, Kurtz uses her own photos to gather subjects for painting. The exhibit runs thru November and December.

FSO performs Mahler in November
FLINT —
The Flint Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Enrique Diemecke, will perform Mahler’s Third Symphony 8 p.m. Nov. 10 at The Whiting, 1241 E. Kearsley St.
The event features mezzo soprano Wendy Bloom, the women of the Flint Festival Chorus and the Flint School of Performing Arts Flint Festival Youth Chorus.
Dr. Mary Wagner, musicologist and assistant professor of music at the University of Michigan-Flint School of Music, will hold a discussion before the performance at 7 p.m.
Tickets range from $9.50-$56, with students and seniors over age 60 receiving a $2 discount. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling The Whiting at 810-237-7333 or 888-8CENTER. — N.B.
