Chorale gearing up for annual concert

Krysten Weller

GRAND BLANC — Holiday songs return this year as New Century Chorale is gearing up for its third annual “Harvest of Song” concert. The performance will be at 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
The concert will celebrate autumn, with proceeds benefiting Genesee County Habitat for Humanity.
“A Harvest of Song has become my favorite concert in our annual series. I truly believe in the importance of music — all the arts, really. But the opportunity to use our talents to raise awareness and funds for a service nonprofit adds to the pride I feel in our organization,” said Patti Pagels-Croner of NCC.
The program will include folk songs, spirituals and sacred pieces, as well as both traditional and contemporary pieces. The Madrigal Chorale of Southfield will join the NCC as special guests and NCC founder W. Gene Coburn will return as director for the 2006-07 season.
“With a mission almost identical to New Century Chorale’s, we are thrilled to bring the Madrigal Chorale of Southfield to our community,” said NCC President Lynn Wandrey. “It’s always a pleasure to perform with fine musicians. It’s an extra special opportunity when we feel an organization is as passionate as we are about the power of music in today’s hectic and, sometimes, challenging world.”
Admission is $12 and tickets are available at the door starting at 3:15 p.m. and may also be reserved at www.newcenturychorale.org. St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church is located at 9020 South Saginaw in Grand Blanc.
